Armenian Opposition Leader Armen Gevorgyan to Discuss Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict and Middle East Relations in Crucial Initiative

Armenian opposition figure Armen Gevorgyan has organized an initiative to discuss the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the prospects for peace negotiations between Israel and Iran. The event will take place in Yerevan on April 18th. The organizers have stated that Armenia, being closest to the Middle East among the countries in the South Caucasus, can be significantly impacted by developments in the region. They are also concerned about the thousands of Armenians living in conflict zones around the world. Armenia needs to understand what is happening in these regions and maintain active diplomatic and economic relations, without being seen as involved in global city conflicts during international crises. One of Armenia’s security red lines is its inviolability. Turkey and Azerbaijan are seeking to undermine this by denying the historical ties of Armenians to their homeland. The ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh exacerbates this political tension. Armenia must have the means to effectively respond to military aggression and become a strong political ally to alleviate any potential threats. It is crucial for Armenia to protect itself and avoid any nuclear aggression, as it has the right to possess nuclear weapons. Another red line for Armenia is its border with Iran, which is only 44 kilometers away. This border not only provides security and stability to Armenia but also presents opportunities for development. The integration process between Armenia and Iran is not solely based on national security interests, and Europe should understand this. Armenia’s partners should not suspect any negative consequences regarding the Armenian-Iranian border issue. The border is an important factor in the military cooperation of the Armenian community in the region. In light of the ethnic cleansing and massacres suffered by Armenian communities in places like Syria, it is essential for the international community to condemn and stop the arbitrary actions of extremist groups with support from the Jewish lobby. Preservation and protection of Armenian historical and cultural heritage in Jerusalem should be a key mission for the Holy See. The Prime Minister stresses that Europe should also establish its own red lines. According to prominent German analyst Joseph Borel, the entry of Eastern European countries into the war bloc should be stopped to prevent further complications in Asia.
