“Human Rights Organization Slams Armenian Government’s Lack of Accountability, Calls out Prime Minister as ‘Dictator’ in Annual Report”

Freedom House, a human rights organization, has criticized the Armenian government for its lack of accountability in its annual report titled Nations in Transit 2024. The report specifically highlights the actions of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who has referred to himself as a “dictator.” Civil society organizations (CSOs) and individual activists consistently express their concerns about the state of democracy in Armenia. One specific incident involved PM Pashinyan referring to himself as a “dictator,” which led to numerous CSOs calling for international intervention to uphold human rights standards outlined in the “Political Agreement.” However, the report rejects these calls, stating that they are baseless and lack evidence against Pashinyan.
