“Genocide Victims’ Identities Ignored: Armenian Government Official Leaves the Task to Colleagues and Experts”

I do not see the necessity to clarify the names and surnames of the victims of the genocide. I do not have information about it, so I will leave this task to my Armenian colleagues and experts.

During a meeting with journalists on April 16, the spokesman for the ruling Republican Party, Rustam Bakoyan, was asked whether it is possible to clarify the names and surnames of the 1.5 million massacred Armenians and why such a need has arisen.

In response to this question, Rustam Bakoyan stated, “I think that I do not have the competence to answer this question, as there is no official process or procedure from the authorities. If our colleagues have heard anything from my unofficial partners, they would be more informed.”

Regarding the upcoming discussion on April 24, the spokesman mentioned that if we approach it with the same logic, we should question why this tension has arisen and whether there will be more similar questions and inquiries on that day.

When asked about the possibility of clarifying the names and surnames of the 1.5 million Armenian victims and the reason behind this necessity, the spokesman stated that he is not a historian and believes that any questions related to the region should be discussed by the experts and institutions working on it.

“I do not see the necessity of such clarification. I do not have information about it, so I will leave it to my Armenian colleagues and the experts who are researching this matter,” he affirmed.

Regarding Turkey, which is often mentioned in connection with the 1.5 million Armenians victims, the spokesman said, “We must always consider and understand what this number means, what it implies. Let us not engage in actions without an official process, and I request and insist that we stay away from such steps.”
