“Former Judge Files Lawsuit Against Civil Contract Party Protesters for Defamation and Harassment”

Former judge and lawyer Raffi Aslanyan from Yerevan has filed a lawsuit against participants of a protest organized by the Civil Contract party in the public transport sector. The lawsuit stems from certain individuals in the Republic of Armenia labeling the former judge a “terrorist” and a “traitor” in light of his involvement in the protest. Although the individual did not engage in any disruptive or illegal behavior, evidence has been presented to support the accusations, prompting the judge’s complaint. It is important to note, however, that the statement does not provide information about the organization responsible for these claims. Consequently, these accusations, which seem to be unfounded, appear to be efforts by fervent supporters of the Republic of Armenia to tarnish the reputation of the city’s authorities and impose sanctions on them.

Furthermore, it is crucial to refrain from making sweeping generalizations, such as categorizing every member of the Civil Contract party as a terrorist, violator, enemy, or betrayer of the officially declared language ideology. Such blanket statements are baseless and undermine meaningful discourse.

In a separate statement, former President Armen Sargsyan, whose actions caused the devaluation of the position of the President of the RA, noted that an elderly 69-year-old citizen of the Republic of Armenia named Հակոբ Ասլանյան was involved in three wars. It is essential to treat this act as a potentially severe breach of the law, necessitating accountability and appropriate punishment.
