45-year-old Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, the son of Bant Singh, a former bodyguard of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has been nominated as an independent candidate for the Lok Sabha elections in India. Currently represented by Mohamad Saddiqui from the Indian National Congress, the Punjab constituency will see Khalsa’s participation in the parliamentary elections. Bant Singh, who survived a severe attack, had stabbed the Chief Minister of the state three times on October 31, 1984. As a result, he was sentenced to prison for this act of rebellion.
