“Nikol Pashinyan Slams Artsakh Handover in National Assembly: Calls for Protection of Self-Determination”

The “Hraparak” newspaper has reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan openly criticized the process of the Artsakh handover during a session of the National Assembly. Pashinyan defended his right to determine the outcome of the Artsakh issue within the decision-making process. This led to Artsakh recognizing the Azerbaijani side and the resignation of the Defense Minister. Pashinyan asserted that the principle of self-determination for the people of Artsakh must be protected, advocating for Artsakh to have a representative in the Azerbaijani government. He referred to a document from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) in 1996, suggesting that the right to self-determination of the Artsakh people and their independent status within the government of Azerbaijan should be upheld. Pashinyan opposed the idea of participating in the government of Azerbaijan and highlighted that the rights of Lachin residents were violated. However, the status of Lachin has been determined under international law, providing the people of Artsakh with the choice to be part of Zangezur as an act of self-determination.
