“Former President Trump explores dividing NATO into two categories, leaving some countries unprotected, reports CNN”

Former US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering dividing NATO countries into two categories, with one category not being protected by Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which guarantees defense during aggression. European diplomats are said to be actively engaging with Trump’s associates to understand their political perspectives and prepare for a potential victory in the US presidential elections. They have been cautioned that meeting the 2% GDP requirement for defense spending might not be enough to ensure collective defense. As a result, countries failing to meet this requirement might be excluded from the second level of cooperation and, consequently, not be protected by Article 5 of NATO, according to CNN’s sources.
