“European Union’s Support to Armenia: Assessing the Importance Amidst Regional Challenges and Developments”

It is difficult to evaluate the significance of the assistance provided by the European Union (EU) to Armenia. The EU has provided 270 million euros in aid, in addition to the 2.7 billion euros from EIB-owned banks which have already been utilized. This 270 million euros support represents the implementation of programs by the Armenian authorities, aimed at improving the business environment and standards. During a discussion on the results of the 2023 program implementation, Sona Ghazaryan, a member of the “Civil Contract” faction, also mentioned the challenges caused by the functioning systems of Armenia and the EU’s developing countries.

Ghazaryan pointed out that Azerbaijan has extensive economic ties with the EU, while Turkey is a NATO member. She emphasized that she does not consider EU cooperation as a standalone regional partnership that excludes Azerbaijan from collaborating. For instance, Azerbaijan interprets the lack of invitation for the head of state to the Eurovision competition or neglecting to invite Azerbaijan to Griffith as exclusion from the European Union. Ghazaryan also mentioned the dynamic development of Armenian-EU relations and the recognition of the Armenian nation’s European mindset by several international surveys.
