“Dangerous Precedent: Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Motorcade Under Fire for Reckless Driving and Fatal Accident”

According to the “Zhoghovurd” daily newspaper, on May 5, 2019, an announcement titled “Document N93 – about the New Armenia” was published at 12:00 p.m. The announcement revealed that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, had temporarily closed a road under the pretext of a demonstration in front of the “New Armenia” office. This action caused inconvenience to local residents and created special conditions in the area.

It’s important to note that three months prior to this incident, on February 4, 2019, footage circulated on the internet showing Nikol Pashinyan violating traffic rules in Yerevan’s Kentron district by crossing a pedestrian walkway.

Since 2020, the size of the vehicle serving Nikol Pashinyan has increased, leading to disruptions in traffic whenever the Prime Minister’s motorcade passes through certain streets.

On April 26, 2022, at 6:05 p.m., in Yerevan’s Leo-Pronyans street, the vehicle serving the Prime Minister collided with 28-year-old Sona Mnatsakanian, a city resident who was 8 months pregnant. The incident involved a Toyota Prado and resulted in Sona Mnatsakanian being knocked down.

At the time of the incident, the vehicle was heading towards the National Assembly to meet with the “QP” faction. After a brief detention, the car continued its journey. Unfortunately, Sona Mnatsakanian, who was in critical condition, was transferred to the “Nairi” maternity hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A criminal investigation followed the incident, and on April 26, the driver responsible for the accident, 51-year-old Aram Navasardyan, who served in the Prime Minister’s motorcade as a 3rd class driver, was arrested. However, on April 29, he was released by the decision of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court.

As a result of this incident, clashes broke out during Nikol Pashinyan’s movements, and protesters blocked both sides of the road in order to demand justice for the accident. The Prime Minister’s motorcade has not only been disregarding red lights, but it has also resulted in the loss of lives.
