Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Raises Concerns over Cooperation with US and EU, Clashing with Eurasian Economic Union

The cooperation between Armenia, the United States, and the European Union (EU) has not been approved by the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), stated Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan. He emphasized that Armenia aims to diversify its economic relations, just like many other countries, without negatively impacting any specific country or union. Grigoryan also mentioned that the diversification of economic relations does not conflict with Armenia’s participation in the EAEU, and discussions regarding Armenia’s potential withdrawal from the union are underway.

A meeting regarding the cooperation between Armenia, the EU, and the US was held in Brussels on Friday as part of the Eastern Partnership initiative. The attendees included US Under Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as well as Urmas Paet, the head of the European Parliament’s delegation to the Eastern Partnership. The meeting also featured Leyen’s role, as well as Joseph Borel, the head of the EU’s Foreign Affairs Division. Ahead of the meeting, Leyen announced a funding commitment of 270 million euros over the next four years to support Armenia’s development.
