“Turkey to Deploy S-400 Air Defense Systems near Iraq Border, Accelerating Plans for Border Crossing Facilities and Anti-Terror Operation”

Turkey plans to place the air defense systems S-400, which it purchased from Russia, near the border with Iraq, according to Türkiye newspaper. The deployment of these systems in the provinces adjacent to Iraq could be expedited after military operations in the Mosul region are completed. Additionally, Turkey has prepared plans for transit transportation as part of the construction of border crossing facilities with Iraq, with the aim of clearing the territory of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party. The implementation of these plans is expected during a visit by Iraqi-Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on April 22. Until then, Erdogan stated that Turkey will refrain from taking any steps towards Iraq until it obtains a clear line of demarcation and completes its work in Syria.

The operation’s objective is to clear the northern regions of Iraq, up to a depth of 40 kilometers, from militants belonging to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party. These developments come as Turkey remains focused on its “war on terrorism” in Syria. This news was reported by the Armenian news outlet, NEWS.am.
