A recent article in the “Hraparak” newspaper has sparked discussion on the internet about the Mathenyans’ family. This family is mentioned in the biography of CGMS Minister Zhanna Andreyasyan and in a 5th grade mathematics textbook. Interestingly, the examples provided in these sources detail the eating habits of the Mathenyans’ family. However, teachers have found errors in the 3rd grade mathematics textbook, such as stating that 4 multiplied by 8 equals 48 or that 6 divided by 8 equals 1. The most intriguing aspect is the relevance of these examples.
In the 5th grade mathematics textbook, the Mathenyan family, consisting of parents Adin and Budi, along with their children Gudi, Dubi, and Egi, brings joy not only to their own family members but also to readers. One student remarked that the dialogues and situations involving this family in the textbook are unrealistic. For instance, “Mokin claimed to have earned 2 kg of mandarins in 3 days, while I claimed that I can eat 3 kg of mandarins in 2 days.” Meanwhile, a teacher mentioned buying 4 kg of mandarins with cream. Further details about this issue can be found in today’s issue of the newspaper.
