“International Organization Calls for Extension or Withdrawal of Deadline in Controversial Case Against Prominent Armenian Journalist, Citing Politically Motivated Prosecutions”

The Centre for Democracy and International Cooperation (CDI) has recently released a statement urging for an extension or withdrawal of the deadline for the controversial case involving prominent Armenian journalist, Armen Ashotyan, in the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Court of Cassation. CDI argues that the ongoing politically motivated prosecutions in Armenia not only violate the principle of presumption of innocence but also expand the authority of the Armenian government to fabricate criminal charges against opposition leaders. In their statement, CDI calls on the Armenian government to put an end to politically motivated prosecutions and uphold the fundamental principles of democracy, the rule of law, political freedom, and human rights. Additionally, CDI requests the international community to closely monitor the situation and condemn these methods of political prosecution.
