“Dramatic Discovery: Counterfeit Drugs Halt Medicinal Product Transportation in Armenia”

The employees of the RA Ministry of Economy’s Department of North-South Corridor-Branch and the Ministry of Economy’s Department of Bagratashen Border Crossing-Branch have made the decision to stop the transportation of medicinal products. This decision was made due to the discovery of a significant quantity of counterfeit drugs being transferred.

According to NEWS.am, it has been reported that customs officials in Vanadzor have detained a freight vehicle belonging to the customs authorities. The vehicle was en route from Armenia to Bagratashen and was carrying the cargo of a smuggler involved in the initial stage of transportation. After inspection by the rentgen control, it was discovered that the vehicle was actually transporting rented construction equipment. The employee responsible for the transportation revealed that the previously sealed doors of the vehicle had been tampered with and opened upon entering the Republic of Armenia. Pre-used cardboard boxes were found to have been removed from inside the doors. The vehicle was then sent to an inspection station where a thorough examination revealed that the previously sealed packages contained medications weighing a total of 21 kg, as well as empty containers for medications weighing 3 kg.

It has been confirmed that the customs authorities’ employees have violated customs regulations as stated in the “About the Regulation of Customs Affairs Law” of the Republic of Armenia, specifically Article 313.

The Bagratashen Border-Crossing Branch of the Department of North-South Corridor and the employees of the Bagratashen Borderline of the Republic of Armenia also discovered a hidden compartment in the vehicle’s seat. Inside the compartment, they found 25 different types of drugs weighing a total of 20 kg.

An administrative investigation has been launched in accordance with the provisions of the Republic of Armenia Law “About the Regulation of Customs Affairs,” specifically Article 313.
