“Andranik Kocharyan Sparks Controversy with New Statements on Azerbaijan’s Encroachments: Hindering Peace Process or Lost in Translation?”

Yesterday, Andranik Kocharyan, the President of the Standing Committee on Defense, National Security, and Internal Affairs, made two controversial statements. First, he claimed that Azerbaijan is encroaching on Armenian villages, settlements, and houses within the borders. He described these encroachments as arbitrary, purposeless, and illegal, stating that they do not contribute to the peace process. Second, Kocharyan denied that these encroachments are escalating or pose any danger of escalation. He argued that they are hindering the peace process in the country. Additionally, Kocharyan mentioned that all political forces will be visiting Tsavush in turn.

Kocharyan went on to talk about the authority they hold and the construction of “security-engineering” positions, which he designed. He compared these positions to the children’s game known as “Manehaym’s Ring.” Furthermore, he referred to former intruders as thieves who stole from the “cows’ bank-butterflies.” Kocharyan emphasized the need to close down these positions and denounced them as arbitrary and purposeless acts, denying any association with vandalism or hindering the peace process. He questioned whether these encroachments would continue under the protection of our soldiers if the Karabakh Power coalition, deemed as the “people’s choice,” were to sit and observe for half an hour.

Kocharyan found it amusing that political leaders, including himself, would be going to Tsavush. He questioned their purpose and wondered if it was necessary for them to be present. He pondered whether the police would be lost without their guidance and expressed surprise at how their commanders would meet with them, even during military meetings. Kocharyan also mentioned the role of non-military representatives in guiding our soldiers. Finally, he raised the question of what Kocharyan and soldiers like him could achieve when the military forces, under the leadership of our generals, stand by our side.
