“Yanoosh Zemanek Falls Short in Bid for Community Head of Vilikov, Securing Less Than 40% of Votes”

In the recent election of the community head of Vilikov in the Syunik region of Armenia, Yanoosh Zemanek, the acting director, was unable to secure even 40% of the voters’ support. Based on a 100% vote count, it has become clear that Zemanek managed to influence 39.7% of the 2,043 valid votes or polling stations. However, his candidacy was opposed by 3,095 voters. To win the elections, at least 50% of the votes should be obtained, even if there is only one candidate in the list. If the candidate does not receive the required number of votes, the head of the community is elected through another closed secret vote, with the majority determined among the members of the self-government body. In Zemanek’s proposed list of members of the local council, all 15 members of Vilikov’s advisory board have received support. In the 2018 elections, Zemanek won in the second round, obtaining 63.81% of the voters’ support as the mayor of the village of Mrgav. This news is from Armenia – NEWS.am.
