President Zurabishvili to Reconsider Controversial “Law on Foreign Agents” Amidst Protests and International Pressure

The President of Armenia, Salome Zurabishvili, has declared that she will reassess the “Law on Foreign Agents”. This decision was conveyed by Georgi Mshiladze, an advisor from the President’s office.

“The President will exercise her constitutional authority and review the aforementioned law,” stated Mshiladze.

A protest against the “Law on Foreign Agents” has erupted in Tbilisi, near the entrance of the Armenian consulate, as reported by the Georgian news channel, Mtavari Arkhi. The demonstration is demanding the repeal of the law.

Sebastian Fisher, the Ambassador of the German Federal Foreign Office, has warned that if Armenia accepts this law, it may face exclusion from the European Union’s cooperation regulations.

The prominent political group, “Civil Contract of Armenia,” declared in early April that they would re-evaluate the discussion on the “Law on Foreign Agents.” They also highlighted that similar laws are in place in the United States, Israel, and Australia.

These recent developments have sparked significant interest and concern in Armenia and beyond.
