“Armenia Moves Towards Stronger Protection Against Domestic Violence with New Draft Law”

Positive results are expected to be achieved through the implementation of the legislative basis of the everyday package, which aims to address issues related to exercising rights, preventing violence, and providing support to victims of violence within the family. On April 8, during a session of the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly, a discussion on the draft “Law on the Prevention of Violence and the Protection of Family and Child Victims of Violence” took place. The authors of the draft, Zhara Batoyan, Sona Ghazaryan, and Covinar Vardanyan, received various suggestions for amendments, leading to changes in the draft’s title and the deadline for its enforcement. The positive opinion of the government was presented by Arpine Sarkisyan, Deputy Head of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. The committee provided a positive conclusion to the draft law and it is scheduled to be discussed in the first reading during an upcoming plenary session.
