Brussels has released a statement regarding a high-level meeting between the European Union, Armenia, and the United States aimed at promoting democracy in Armenia. The meeting, which took place on April 5, 2024, brought together key figures including the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and representatives from the European Council, the European Union, and the United States. The European Union and the United States expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation with Armenia in areas such as political reform, governance, and socio-economic development. Both parties aim to expand partnerships in various fields, including transportation, law enforcement, and technology. Financial assistance will be provided to support Armenia’s democracy and socio-economic development. The European Union also announced a new cooperation strategy with Armenia that will provide 270 million euros over the course of the next three years. The United States has additionally pledged 65 million dollars to enhance economic development in Armenia by September 2023. The European Union and the United States affirmed their commitment to further strengthen their partnership with Armenia and Prime Minister Pashinyan in implementing reforms. The goal is to support Armenia’s socio-economic development, transportation infrastructure, digitalization, and the promotion of social and institutional reforms. Integration into the European energy market, renewable energy expansion, and energy efficiency improvement are also priorities. The European Union and the United States will continue to provide assistance to address the immediate needs of displaced persons and refugees, as well as improving their social and economic conditions. Efforts will also be made to support the peace process in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and achieve stability, security, and prosperity in the region. Programs such as “Democracy and Development” will contribute to social and economic development in Armenia, the revitalization of vulnerable communities, and the social and economic integration of displaced persons. Cooperation will focus on improving the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable groups and refugees, ensuring energy security, and promoting innovation and technology. Armenia will benefit from trade preferences, investment incentives, and increased access to European markets as a partner in the Eastern Partnership and a member of international organizations. The European Union, the United States, and democratic Armenia are committed to actively promoting democracy and contributing to the improvement of governance, comprehensive development, and socio-economic integration in the country. The aim is to create conditions for sustainable democracy and a high standard of living.
