The Head of Hong Kong’s Health and Welfare Bureau has confirmed the first case of human infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. This case involves a 37-year-old man who is believed to have contracted the virus from a poultry farm during the recent outbreak in February. He has been transferred to the Yan Chai Hospital for treatment and is currently in critical condition. A sample from the patient’s respiratory secretion has tested positive for the presence of the virus. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Hong Kong has emphasized that infected individuals may exhibit symptoms similar to those of the flu, which can complicate the detection of the disease. As a precautionary measure, residents are advised to stay away from live poultry and to wash their hands thoroughly with soap.
