“CSTO’s Failure to Assist Armenia in Border Clashes Raises Concerns: Deputy Minister Questions Security Protection”

During a recent meeting with journalists at the Ministry of Defense, Deputy Minister Arevik Khachatryan discussed the assistance provided by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to the Republic of Armenia. She mentioned that Russia did not offer support to Armenia during the Armenian-Azerbaijani border clashes. Khachatryan questioned the timing of the CSTO’s assistance, noting that while there were warnings of a potential war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the actions by the Azerbaijani military targeted not only Armenia but also Artsakh. She expressed concern about the CSTO’s role in ensuring Armenia’s security within its recognized borders.

In response to a question about leaving the CSTO, Deputy Minister Khachatryan described the organization as an ineffective security system for Armenia. She emphasized that if the system is unable to protect Armenia’s security and does not function properly, then there is a failure in communication and a lack of protection as mandated by the law.

It is clear that these issues concerning the CSTO and Armenia’s security require further examination and resolution.
