“New Proposal to Equalize Salaries of President and Broadcasting Council Members Based on Public Positions”

The Draft Law on “Public Positions and Positions in Public Service” includes a proposal to determine the salaries of the President and members of the television and radio broadcasting council in the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) based on the positions of public and bodyguard officials who hold similar positions. Vache Kalashyan, the director of the office of the deputy prime minister of the Republic of Armenia, announced this during a meeting of the Public and Political Committees on April 2. The proposal is in line with the principles defined in the Law on “Remuneration for Public Service,” which calls for political neutrality in remuneration and equalized salaries for officials and elected representatives. The aim is to revise the salaries of these positions according to these principles.

Kalashyan explained that there are currently 6 bodyguard officials, with the head of the NSS and his deputy being the highest paid. He responded to the committee members’ questions about the remuneration principles for bodyguard officials, emphasizing the need to improve the normative regulation and implement the proposed changes for this purpose. Vladmir Vardanyan, the president of the Public and Political Committees, supported these changes, stating that the compensation for bodyguard officials should not be considered extraordinary. The committee members expressed a positive response to the draft, highlighting the importance of studying ill-gotten wealth and eliminating certain abuses. Kalashyan mentioned that these approved changes will be implemented until 2026. The committee gave a favorable opinion on the project.
