“Rector of the Academy of Sciences Highlights Risks of Centralizing Educational Potential in Armenia”

In my opinion, centralizing our entire educational potential in one place is a risky move that could leave us vulnerable to our adversaries. Attempting to develop other countries’ mechanization efforts within our own country would likely lead to an unsuccessful outcome with potentially risky consequences. Throughout history, the problems of Armenian science have been addressed through separate institutions, and this approach should continue to progress. In a recent interview with NEWS.am, Yuri Suvaryan, the rector of the Academy of Sciences, stressed the importance of cooperation between the Academy’s scientific and academic institutions, which span various fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics.

Suvaryan believes that knowledge should develop independently, but education should not be excluded. Rather, knowledge should contribute to the development of education. He cautions against integrating academic institutions into universities, as doing so would not only waste time but also compromise the independence of our institutions. Integration would strip them of autonomy and scientific freedom, which are crucial for the advancement of science.

According to Suvaryan, any changes in the field of education should begin by completing the unfinished reforms. Of utmost importance is the selection of teachers. In his view, teachers should have scientific-research themes, and the selection process should consider the significance of a scientific background.

These are the latest developments in the education sector in Armenia, as reported by NEWS.am.
