EU Bans Turkish Airline Southwind Airlines Over Alleged Russian Connections

The European Union has banned Turkish airline Southwind Airlines, based in Antalya, from flying in European territory. This decision comes after the EU determined that the company has connections to Russia. Southwind Airlines had planned to operate flights to several cities in Germany, including Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart, as well as to Greece.

The investigation conducted by the Finnish aviation authority revealed that the majority of Southwind’s ownership and control lies with Russian individuals, rather than Turkish citizens. As a result, Finland has also prohibited Southwind from operating flights between Antalya and Helsinki. This raises questions about how other European countries will respond to this situation.
