“Armenian-Russian Relations Strained as Head of Armenian Government Distorts History, says Sergey Lavrov”

The appointed head of the Armenian government, Sergey Lavrov, expressed concern about the deteriorating relations between Armenia and Russia in an interview with “Izvestia” on March 28. Lavrov criticized the head of the Armenian government for making absurd statements and distorting the history of the past few decades, which he believes is contributing to the worsening relations. He highlighted the ongoing military activities in Yerevan and how they are undermining the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) agreement. Furthermore, Lavrov reminded Yerevan that it was the CSTO that protected Armenia’s interests during difficult times and facilitated the country’s peacekeeping efforts in Artsakh in 2021. He also noted that Armenia has recently started receiving military personnel from other countries, thereby diverting the focus and resources of the CSTO’s peacekeeping operations.
