The International Organization for Migration (IOM) recently announced that one of its employees was tragically killed in Syria last Thursday. The IOM stated that Ahmad Sheikh, an IOM employee based in Dayr ez-Zor, was the unfortunate victim of a series of attacks by armed groups in the city. These attacks resulted in his residence being hit by several projectiles. Sheikh played a crucial role in overseeing IOM’s water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in the city. In a statement on the organization’s website, IOM Director General António Vitorino expressed his sorrow over Sheikh’s untimely death, emphasizing the ongoing violence and suffering endured by the people of Syria. Sheikh’s loss will be deeply felt by all.
