“Rosatom” state corporation has announced that it can offer Armenia a range of options for nuclear reactors with different power capacities. The Deputy Director-General for Development and International Business of Rosatom, Kirill Komarov, made this statement during the “Atomexpo-2024” forum in Sochi, Russia. However, the decision on which block to choose ultimately lies with the authorities of Armenia. Komarov highlighted that there are differing opinions on the necessary power generation levels in Armenia. Furthermore, he mentioned the possibility of supplying neighboring countries, such as Georgia, with power, which poses a challenge for Armenian leadership. Komarov emphasized that “Rosatom” is capable of implementing any decision made by the government of Armenia due to their production cycle. The company has reactors with capacities ranging from 50 MWt to 1000 MWt, and they are ready to start constructing a 600 MWt reactor in the near future. Additionally, they can build units with capacities of 200 MWt or 400 MWt. Komarov stressed the importance of not limiting oneself in terms of equipment and highlighted that low power consumption will always be more costly than high power consumption. He urged the Armenian government to find a solution that meets the country’s energy needs while also providing affordable and environmentally-friendly electricity.
