German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to Visit Middle East, Urges Greater Assistance for Gaza

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is scheduled to visit the Middle East on Monday to address the insufficient assistance reaching Gaza and the need for Israel’s government to open the border crossings for greater assistance, as reported by Reuters.

In her previous visit to the region following the Hamas offensive in Israel on October 7, Baerbock expressed her intention to find a potential solution to resolve the situation, according to Reuters.

Baerbock emphasized that the current humanitarian air or sea supplies are not effectively resolving the crisis.

The leader of the German Green Party underscored that military actions must be bound by the limitations imposed by international humanitarian law.

Baerbock called for the United Nations to actively engage and prevent a repeat of the events of October 7, thereby safeguarding the Israeli people, according to Reuters.

Reuters also reported that Baerbock proposed that discussions in the Middle East should center around the region’s potential transformation into a political future.

She expressed that the mutual determination of the two countries, particularly following the recent change in government in Palestine, can serve as the initial step towards establishing a democratic Palestine that ensures the safety and well-being of its people.
