EU Leaders Strongly Condemn Russia’s Military Actions and Prepare for Sanctions Against Belarus, Iran, and North Korea

The leaders of European Union institutions and governments have condemned Russia’s actions in using military force in Ukraine, as well as its recent provocative measures against Belarus, Iran, and the Eastern Partnership countries. This statement was made in a joint declaration by the heads of state of EU member countries during their first formal declaration since Brussels’ summit.

“The European Council strongly condemns the introduction of additional Russian military forces, including provocative measures against Belarus, Iran, and the Eastern Partnership countries, for the purpose of undermining Russia’s potential to initiate war, including the strengthening of military capabilities,” the document states.

In addition, EU leaders have called on the European Union to prepare new sanctions against Belarus, Iran, and North Korea, in order to assist Russia.

“The European Council calls on external action and security policy coordinator [Josep Borrell] and the high representative for foreign affairs and security policy of the European Union to prepare new sanctions against Belarus, Iran, and North Korea,” the statement says.

Finally, the EU is ready to use economic sanctions against Iran if that country collaborates with the Russian Federation in ballistic missile programs and high-tech technologies aimed at use against Ukraine, said the European Council.

“The European Council categorically denies those allegations that Iran can supply ballistic missiles and high-tech technologies to Russia, as well as facilitate cooperation with the high-tech technologies of international partners,” the statement said.
