“Water Contamination Scandal Unveiled: Employees of Institute of Organic Chemistry Demand Justice”

The problem began in 2007 when the water supply of the institution was contaminated. The contamination was found in a rural area, specifically in accordance with a local code related to the water system. It was discovered that the contamination was caused by the relocation of a company or individual, either temporarily or permanently. During a recent demonstration organized by employees of the Institute of Organic Chemistry, lawyer Tigran Nakhadalyan discussed the issue. He mentioned that the investigation into the criminal case has been ongoing since 2017, but progress has been hindered by the expiration of the statute of limitations.

Tigran Nakhadalyan stated, “Many government employees have admitted to their own involvement in illegal actions, including falsifying evidence and information, which ultimately led to the contamination of the water supply. As a result, the Chief Prosecutor’s Office has demanded that the Yerevan Municipality, who owns the water system, restart the process. However, there have been ongoing issues within the municipality that have prevented any action from being taken.”

According to Nakhadalyan, the employees of the institute have contacted various authorities and responsible officials multiple times, but have not received any response or punishment. The Prime Minister’s Office released a statement, stating that a discussion committee has been established to address the issue. However, no meeting has been scheduled yet.

It is important to note that the employees of the Institute of Organic Chemistry began protesting near Freedom Square on March 15. They have demanded the halt of construction activities near their institute, as they are unable to continue their work under such conditions.
