“Promises Unfulfilled: Zhoghovurd Newspaper Reveals No Evidence of Debt Liberation under Pashinyan’s Administration”

“Zhoghovurd” newspaper reported on April 15, 2018, that during a live broadcast of the Republic, Nikol Pashinyan made a declaration regarding the financial state of the citizens of Armenia. He stated that the people of Armenia were suffering from hunger and burdened by high banking interest rates. Pashinyan expressed the belief that it was necessary to forgive all debts related to exploitative and usurious loans.

However, upon investigation, the Zhoghovurd newspaper found no evidence to support the claim that any citizens had been relieved of their debts under Nikol Pashinyan’s administration.

Furthermore, during a session of the National Assembly of Armenia on May 25, 2020, Pashinyan was questioned about the provision of financial assistance to citizens. Due to the restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, many people were unable to work and, consequently, were unable to repay their loans. The number of exploitative loans that individuals were unable to pay reached approximately 500,000.

In response, Nikol Pashinyan expressed his opposition to forgiving debts and making decisions that would have negative consequences. He emphasized the importance of following through on words and taking responsibility for them. Pashinyan disagreed with the idea of dividing resources and budgets unfairly, and stated his opposition to such actions.
