Kazakhstan Parliament Takes Definitive Action to Tackle Counterfeit Drugs in Landmark Pharmaceutical Bill

The council of the Kazakhstani parliament has agreed to the version of the bill proposed by the Senate regarding the regulation of the pharmaceutical industry. This bill aims to address concerns about the production and sale of counterfeit drugs. It includes regulations for the production and sale of pharmaceuticals, as well as the advertising of non-smoking tobacco and vapes. Additionally, it prohibits the advertising of these products during certain hours. The bill also mandates that healthcare practitioners provide mandatory insurance, requiring medical organizations to enter into insurance agreements with insurance companies. The regulation of vaccines is currently being considered. In cases of medical malpractice, if a patient lodges a complaint with the appropriate body, an impartial expert commission will be established to review the case. The decision of this commission will serve as the basis for compensating the patient. Once the council approves the daily changes to the bill, it will be signed by the President of Kazakhstan.
