Tragic Collision on Yerevan-Meghri Highway Claims Four Lives, Investigation Underway

On March 19, 2024, at 05:40, a collision occurred on the Yerevan-Meghri highway, specifically on the 207th kilometer. The vehicles involved in the accident were a “VAZ 21063” car registered to a 38-year-old resident of Vayots Dzor province and an “Opel Astra 1.6” car registered to a 39-year-old resident of Syunik province.

Unfortunately, the driver of the “VAZ 21063” car suffered severe injuries and was immediately taken to the Sisian medical center for treatment. Tragically, the crash resulted in the loss of lives for the other 4 passengers. The victims include a 35-year-old woman, an 11-year-old child, the 68-year-old brother-in-law, and the 67-year-old woman.

In response to this tragic incident, the head of the Syunik regional department of the Republic of Armenia’s criminal code has made a statement based on Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.

Currently, investigations into the accident are ongoing. Experts are carefully examining the scene of the collision, as well as the conditions of the vehicles involved. Medical and forensic examinations are also being conducted to shed further light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is tasked with providing additional clarity on the details of the incident once the investigations are complete.

The ongoing investigation aims to determine the causes of the accident in order to prevent any future incidents and mitigate potential consequences. As for the injured driver, their condition is considered satisfactory while under medical treatment.
