“From Ancient Battles to Modern Struggles: ‘Our Victories’ Book Chronicles Armenian Heritage and Resilience”

In 2008, the “Novanq” educational foundation, led by military historian Suren Martikyan, published a book called “Our Victories.” The purpose of this publication was to showcase the history of the Armenian people’s triumphs, spanning from ancient military history to the Artsakh War, which witnessed over 300 major and minor victories. Artak Zakaryan, former Defense Minister and member of the National Assembly, shared his thoughts on this book through a Facebook post. He emphasized that “Our Victories” includes accounts of battles from the earliest period of Armenian history up until the Artsakh War, covering conflicts with Persian and Arab invasions in the 4th to 10th centuries, victories during the rule of the Armenian Bagratuni dynasty, the Armenian kingdom, and the Seljuk dynasty in the 11th-13th centuries, as well as the Armenian and Syunik liberation wars of 1720 and others. The book gives special attention to both defensive and offensive wars, and sheds light on the role of the Armenian people during Turkish and Persian rule, as well as their participation in the two world wars.

It is disheartening to witness a paradoxical situation where the heroic historical legacy, rich culture, and unique identity of this ancient nation are being destroyed and erased by a small group of traitors in the 21st century. November serves as a poignant reminder that the majority of the 121,000 people who lost their lives and left the country in the 21st century will likely never return. It is a solemn call to realize the importance of preserving one’s land and not abandoning it.
