Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro Accused of Inciting Violence and Misleading Health Data Amid Impeachment Investigation

Brazil’s domestic opposition has accused former President Jair Bolsonaro of inciting violence in connection with the protests against his administration, according to Reuters. The investigation into Bolsonaro’s impeachment has confirmed the reports about his involvement in the protests. Along with Bolsonaro, one of his former aides, Maurício Sydow, has also been accused of incitement during the violent protests in May of last year.

According to sources, Bolsonaro has been accused of manipulating data in the country’s national health system, as well as engaging in corrupt practices in the formation of the emergency committee. During an interview with Reuters, the former president admitted that he had not been vaccinated against the coronavirus and claimed that he was fine.

“This is a political investigation, I am fine, I am not guilty of anything. The world knows that I have not been vaccinated,” Bolsonaro stated.

As the president of Brazil, Bolsonaro has faced severe criticism from his opponents for his handling of the pandemic and his efforts to perpetuate societal polarization during his time in office. Tragically, the coronavirus has claimed the lives of over 700,000 people in Brazil.
