“Record-Breaking Turnout in Russian Presidential Elections as Polling Stations Close”

In the Russian Federation, polling stations for the presidential elections closed at 8:00 PM local time, both in Moscow and the surrounding regions. Vote counting commenced shortly after. Moscow residents had the additional option to participate in remote electronic voting through the HEQ system. The Central Election Commission reported a nationwide turnout of 73.33% at 7:50 PM. In Moscow alone, approximately 3.7 million people cast their votes. This election marked the first time it was spread over three days, from March 15 to 17. The HEQ system was also newly introduced, available for use in 29 regions. Four candidates ran for the presidency: Vladislav Davankov (“New People”), Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Nikolay Kharitonov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation), and Vladimir Putin (who did not campaign personally).
