“Latvian National Security Chief Under Investigation for Alleged Ties with Russian Intelligence: European Parliament Calls for Scrutiny”

The provision of national security services in Latvia has come under scrutiny by the European Parliament’s rapporteur and representatives from the Baltic countries. They have raised concerns about potential cooperation between Latvian authorities and Russian intelligence and security services. Recent reports in Latvian media outlets suggest that the 73-year-old head of Latvia’s Security Police, who is suspected of having connections with Russia, is currently under investigation. This investigation follows information published by Russian, Scandinavian, and Baltic media outlets alleging his involvement with the Russian FSB since 2004.

According to the LETA news agency, the decision to initiate criminal proceedings against the head of Latvia’s security services was made on February 22 during a meeting with the President. Despite these allegations, the official in question has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
