“Maldives Takes Flight: Bayraktar TB2 UAVs Arrive for Aerial Surveillance, Boosting Defense Capabilities”

Maldivians have purchased the Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from Turkey to conduct aerial surveillance in their country, according to Editon.mv. Mohamed Muiz, the Maldivian president’s envoy, visited Turkey, which was his first foreign trip since assuming office in November. During his visit, he signed an agreement to acquire military UAVs. The Defense Post reports that the deal is worth $37 million, with each UAV costing $5 million.

Furthermore, the Maldivians have entered into a cooperation agreement with India to enhance their armed forces’ surveillance capabilities. President Muiz specifically requested assistance from New Delhi to acquire drones and strengthen the country’s defense capabilities by 2023. Despite his close ties with China, Muiz was assured that this move would not disrupt China’s regional interests.
