“National Gallery of Armenia Unveils Restored Masterpiece: Vardges Surmeyan’s Iconic Sculpture ‘Salome’ Returns to its Original Glory”

The National Gallery of Armenia is currently hosting an exhibition that showcases a collection of Armenian and international contemporary art. One of the highlights of the exhibition is a notable piece by renowned Armenian artist Vardges Surmeyan titled “Salome”. This sculpture was originally brought from Rome to Yerevan in 1929 and has been on display at the National Gallery ever since. However, in 2019, the decision was made to move “Salome” to the department of Restoration and Conservation in order to undergo a much-needed restoration process. After four years of dedicated work, Surmeyan’s famous and iconic statue has been successfully restored to its original splendor. The “History of the Restored Sculpture” project not only seeks to showcase this remarkable artwork but also aims to tell the story of the nation through a single artistic masterpiece. This valuable contribution to the field of fine arts is a tribute to the excellence of both Salome and the realm of contemporary art worldwide.
