“Fly Arna Loses Aircraft Registration, Operations Suspended for 6 Months”

In a recent development, the aircraft belonging to “Armenian National Airlines” CJSC, operating as “Fly Arna,” has been deregistered from the Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Armenia. The decision was made by the Committee’s commission on March 7. The Airbus A320 aircraft, registered as EK-YRB, had been non-operational since January 16 and flew out of Yerevan on February 26. On March 6, the Committee published a list confirming the registration of this aircraft with the Armenian registry. However, it was revealed that the carrier failed to meet the necessary requirements for operating the aircraft.

According to a report by “Hetq,” the operation of the carrier’s aircraft under the Operator’s Safety and Health Verification (OSHV) requires the involvement of a private or leased operator, or an operator with a charter agreement with the OSHV for at least six months. The operator is also required to fulfill the specified requirements within the given timeframe. Failure to comply with these requirements results in the suspension of the OSHV, thus prohibiting the operator from conducting commercial flights.

As a consequence, on March 7, the Committee suspended the OSHV of “Arna Air” for a period of six months, until September 7. If the carrier fails to secure an aircraft or a memorandum of understanding regarding its procurement within this timeframe, it will be removed from the OSHV. It is worth noting that “Fly Arna” is a result of Armenian-Arab cooperation, with the Armenian National Interests Fund (ANIF) and the Arab International Business Company (FZE) holding 49% ownership each, while the remaining 2% is owned by Vardges Nergizyan, a citizen of Armenia.

The statutory capital of “Armenian National Airlines” CJSC is AMD 8,852,430,000, with the Republic of Armenia’s 49% investment valued at 4,337,690,700 AMD. “Fly Arna” obtained its OSHV on May 5, 2022, and commenced operations on July 3 of the same year. However, its last flight took place on January 16, 2024.
