Armenia’s Government Seeks to Adopt International Standards and Expand “Zvartnots” Airport Operations: Minister Reveals Plans for International Flights

The Armenian government has announced its intention to adopt international standards and operate the “Zvartnots” international airport for international flights. In a conversation with “Armenpress,” Minister Suren Papikyan discussed the implementation and results of the 2023 program under the Government program of the Republic of Armenia (2021-2026), as well as the initiative of Hovik Aghazaryan, a representative of the “Civil Contract” party. Aghazaryan acknowledged that there is no legal right to construct an international airport within 250 km of the “Zvartnots” international airport, according to the agreement. The Minister stated that negotiations are currently underway with partners to make changes regarding this point, with the expectation and desire to operate the “Zvartnots” airport for both internal and international flights.
