“Protests Erupt in Russia as Artists and Activists Face Interrogations and Charges by ‘Network Freedom’ over Anti-War Stance”

In several cities in Russia, artists and activists are organizing protests against the war. Some of them have been questioned and informed by “Network Freedom”.

For example, in St. Petersburg, artists Katerina Nenasheva and Natascha Chetverikova were treated by ADZ workers in their studio, where they were also interrogated. Nenasheva was charged with the Sota agency after the interrogation.

In Yekaterinburg, artist Ilya Mozgov was also questioned, and law enforcement officers confiscated two hard drives and computer technology from him during the interrogation.

Furthermore, authorities are conducting interrogations with members of the “Yav” art group.

Part of these interrogations were initiated by Moscow’s Lefortovo District Court under Article 275 of the Russian Penal Code, which deals with high treason. These interrogations may be related to the work of Petr Verzilov, who has been mentioned by “Network Freedom”.

Verzilov has faced charges in social media posts where he spoke about Buta’s killings. According to the indictment, Verzilov has been accused of creating a real danger to national security and causing significant damage to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Since 2020, Petr Verzilov has been outside of Russia. In December of that year, law enforcement officers searched his Moscow apartment, and his wife was called in for questioning. The last hearing at the Basman District Court took place in March 2023 and was conducted remotely due to Verzilov’s “faker” act.
