Prime Minister Pashinyan Announces New Economic Support Measure for Struggling Potato and Cabbage Farmers

During a government meeting earlier this morning, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced a new measure of economic support aimed at assisting potato and cabbage-producing villagers in the Gegharkunik region. These villagers are currently facing difficulties in selling their produce. The government has declared that it will not provide assistance in selling the remaining products, which are beginning to spoil.

According to Pashinyan, the consumer demand for potatoes in Armenia is significant, with approximately 30,000 tons consumed monthly. However, this year’s prices, not only for potatoes but for other goods, are lower compared to last year. This presents a dual challenge, as the villagers want to sell their products at a fair price, while city residents are looking for the lowest possible prices.

The Prime Minister also expressed concern about the negative impact of importing these items from abroad on domestic production. He emphasized that the import volumes of these products may not be as significant as they are presented to be.

This economic support measure aims to address the specific challenges faced by the potato and cabbage-producing villagers in Gegharkunik region. The government’s decision not to assist with selling the remaining produce highlights the need for finding alternative solutions to prevent further spoilage. The Prime Minister’s concern regarding the impact of imports on domestic production underscores the need for a balanced approach to support local farmers and meet consumer demands.
