“Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan meets with Al-Azhar’s Green Imam, emphasizes importance of inter-religious dialogue”

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently met with Al-Azhar’s Green Imam, Sheikh Ahmed Muhammad Al-Talibi. During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of inter-religious dialogue in Egypt and the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence among different religious communities in Armenia. Pashinyan also highlighted the potential distortion of religious teachings when religion is used for political purposes and emphasized the role of governance in such cases.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister commended Sheikh Ahmed Muhammad Al-Talibi for his efforts in strengthening the ties between the Armenian people and the Islamic world. Pashinyan particularly acknowledged Sheikh Al-Talibi’s work in finding evidence of the existence of thousands of Armenians in Islamic countries. As a token of appreciation, Nikol Pashinyan dedicated a duplicated copy of the first edition of Kuranothin Qur’an, which is preserved in the Matenadaran, an ancient manuscripts repository dating back to 1719 in Armenia.

In response, Sheikh Ahmed Muhammad Al-Talibi expressed his gratitude for the valuable gift and emphasized the importance of inter-religious dialogue and cooperation for promoting peace and harmony. He also mentioned the upcoming exhibition of Arabic manuscripts at the Matenadaran, highlighting how initiatives like this strengthen peaceful coexistence and dialogue between different cultures.

This visit by the Prime Minister is expected to deepen the relations between Armenia and Egypt, with a particular focus on education and culture.
