“Gift-giving Dilemma: Can You Celebrate March 8th Without Breaking the Law?”

Is it acceptable to have breakfast, give flowers on March 8, invite you for tea, and close the account in compliance with the gift-giving law?

During today’s session of the RA Judicial Council on March 6, Vardanyan raised a question to Karen Karapetyan, the President of the Judicial Council: “I have no desire for special privileges, but I don’t want to feel suppressed by offering tea. I’m uncertain whether I will be violating the law or not, but I will definitely celebrate on March 8.” In response, the Prosecutor General stated that the proposed draft goes against the legal system of the country concerning the acceptance of official gifts. He mentioned, “We believe that any gift received by a high-ranking official, exceeding 160,000 drams, from someone of our related nationality should be considered as a ‘bribe.’ Taking into account the symbolism and understanding that gifts on March 8 are not intended to exert influence on your colleagues, I’m confident that you won’t be affected by showing gratitude.”
