Armenia Explores Measures to Counter Russian Influence Amidst Uncertain Negotiations, Says Political Analyst

Armenia is currently implementing measures to counter the activities of Russian agents in the country. Some of these actions are still being carried out by Nikol Pashinyan, although it is uncertain if the Russians are crossing the red line of negotiations. Political analyst Arishty Kiviryan emphasized in an interview with NEWS.am that he recalls Putin having a certain influence in Russia, but one day he turned a blind eye and stood up against him. Kiviryan stated that Russia tells Armenia not to worry and that there will be no actual cessation of relations. They say either remain silent and stop participating in the OSCE or start a war with a slight change.

When discussing security in cooperation with France and Greece, Kiviryan expressed uncertainty on the matter. He used the example of bringing weapons from five different places to highlight that this does not solve the issue of real security. Kiviryan pointed to the border between Syunik and Iran, where Armenia has brought troops and carried out military operations multiple times, making strong statements. However, regardless of Iran’s actions, it provides more security for Armenia and Syunik. According to Kiviryan, a few tanks alone do not guarantee security.

He questioned whether the weapons provided, whether from France or India, truly ensure Armenia’s security. He mentioned that Ukraine is currently providing specific weapons that at least allow resistance against the Russians, not necessarily Moscow. Kiviryan stressed that Armenia should not allow Iran to pose a threat and should not rely on an enemy from Iran. Instead, the focus should be on the mercenary forces of the current government seeking to weaken Iran. He emphasized that Iran’s actions are in fact beneficial for Armenia’s security and provide additional security for Syunik. In conclusion, the presence of a few armored personnel carriers alone is not sufficient.

Kiviryan stated that Armenia’s past actions have been misguided, and analyzing them can provide insight into when Armenia will reach a point of no return.
