“French Farmers Threaten New Protests and Blockades to Demand Government Support Amidst Environmental Regulations Backlash”

French farmers, represented by the largest union of French farmers, FNSEA, are considering organizing new protests and blockades next week to push the government into providing support for the struggling agricultural sector. The protests are a response to the strict environmental regulations that have led to a decline in agricultural competitiveness and increased expenses and reduced incomes for farmers across Europe.

During an interview with BFM TV, Arnaud Rousseau, the director of the Chamber of Agriculture of Orne, expressed the need for concrete actions from the government to ensure that the necessary support is provided. While participating in a dialogue with President Emmanuel Macron at the Eliseyan Palace during the Paris agricultural show, Rousseau emphasized that it is too early to conclude that everything has been settled and urged farmers to maintain their efforts.

In a demonstration at the Paris Agricultural Show on February 24, a group of French farmers called for the removal of a billboard belonging to a real estate agency. Last month, the demonstrations were temporarily suspended after Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced a new package of 400 million euros. However, with some promises still unfulfilled, some protests have resumed to exert further pressure on the government for greater assistance to farmers.
