“Debate and Doubt: Clash of Opinions Emerges in Constitutional Amendment Commission Meeting”

The “Hraparak” newspaper reports that members of the commission for constitutional amendments and representatives from civil society previously met with the Prime Minister to discuss the drafting of a new constitution. During the meeting, it was mentioned that there are individuals within the public and the commission who oppose making amendments to the current constitution imposed by Azerbaijan. However, it is acknowledged that these individuals might lack the expertise required to draft a new constitution themselves. Parliament member Arman Pashinyan expressed that there is no immediate need for a new constitution, as the process of organizing new elections and forming a new government can proceed without it. It should be noted that the commission comprises non-partisan representatives, including members of the “My Step” alliance and the Prosperous Armenia party, who do not possess the authority to intervene in political matters. The newspaper concludes by raising the question of whether these individuals should continue to be part of the commission if they fail to reach an agreement. In response, Vigen Kocharyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia party, stated that he did not attend the meeting and confirmed his presence in Armenia at that time.
