“Yerevan’s Motor Vehicle Registry sees a Surge in Vehicle Registration Payments, Doubles from Previous Year”

According to NEWS.am, the amount collected as payment for vehicle registration in the “A” and “B” branches of Yerevan’s motor vehicle registry on February 20 of this year reached a total of 677.6 million drams. This amount is double compared to the previous year. The data was obtained from the Municipality of Yerevan in response to an official request.

In the “A” branch (Central), a total of 3,652 payments were made, with each payment amounting to 160,000 AMD. This resulted in a total of 584,320,000 drams. On the other hand, in the “B” branch (Arabkir), there were a total of 3,887 payments made, each amounting to 24,000 AMD, resulting in a total of 93,288,000 drams.

It is worth noting that starting from February 1, 2024, the vehicle registration fees in certain areas of Yerevan have increased. The annual fee in the “A” branch (Central) is now set at 160,000 AMD, while in the “B” branch (Arabkir), it is set at 24,000 AMD. This change aims to address the issue of city congestion by limiting year-round parking and clearly defining specific times and days for parking in these areas. However, it may pose challenges for drivers seeking available parking spots. The success of fully enforcing the payment of vehicle registration fees remains to be seen, not only for drivers but also for taxpayers like us.
