Village of Khachik Debt Crisis Resolved: Prime Minister Clears Loans for Affected Residents

In the village of Khachik in the Vayots Dzor province, there has been an ongoing issue causing difficulties for the residents. It is reported that two villagers have taken out loans, putting the entire village population at risk of being pursued by debt collectors. During a government meeting on February 29, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed this matter, labeling it as a criminal act. He further stated that due to this incident, the construction of residential buildings in the affected areas has been halted, despite the military significance of the village of Khachik.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan announced a decision made by the government to provide assistance to the affected residents. A total of 65.7 million drams will be allocated from the state budget to forgive the debt of the villagers who have not engaged in violence or crime. Additionally, the affected residents will now have the opportunity to take out loans. The Prime Minister urged the villagers not to take matters into their own hands or engage in similar actions, emphasizing that they do not have the authority to make such judgments.

Hovhannes Khachatryan, the CEO of a commercial bank, commented on the issue, stating that it involves 77 individuals. He mentioned that loan consolidation will cover the remaining interest rates, legal expenses, and penalties, totaling 50 million drams.
